South Africa’s star batter Laura Wolvaardt continued her excellent form in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. In the 11th match of the tournament against Scotland, held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Wolvaardt played a fine knock, scoring 40 runs off 37 balls before being dismissed.

After South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first, Wolvaardt opened the innings with her usual flair. She started confidently, taking on the Scottish bowlers and quickly finding the boundary. With five fours and a six, her powerful shots kept the scoreboard ticking. Her 40 runs gave the Proteas the start they were looking for. But just as it seemed like she would push on for a big score, her innings was cut short in the 8th over.

The moment of her dismissal came when Katherine Fraser tossed one up outside the off-stump. Wolvaardt, looking to clear the covers, stepped out of her crease and attempted to lift the ball. However, she got too close to the pitch of the ball and failed to get the required elevation. Olivia Bell, positioned at short cover, timed her jump perfectly and took a stunning catch above her head. It was a moment of redemption for Fraser, who had dropped Wolvaardt earlier in the innings.

South Africa In A Solid Position Against Scotland

Wolvaardt’s departure was a crucial moment in the game. Her aggressive start had put South Africa in a solid position, but her dismissal gave Scotland a much-needed breakthrough. As she walked off the field, having played another valuable knock, there was a sense of what could have been if she had stayed a little longer.

At the time of this article, South Africa are at 68 for 1 in 9 overs, with Tazmin Brits and Anneke Bosch at the crease for 29* and 10* respectively.
