Quetta Gladiators cricketer Khawaja Nafay pulled off a stunner at midwicket to dismiss Islamabad United’s raging captain Shadab Khan in the death overs of the innings.

Prior to the time of his dismissal, Shadab had already raced to a 12-ball 23* to take United to 131 within just 15 overs.

Aspiring Pakistan cricketer Khawaja Nafay made his presence felt on the field for Quetta Gladiators in their all-important PSL 2024 Eliminator 1 clash against Islamabad United.

Stationed at midwicket by his skipper Rilee Rossouw, Nafay covered good ground to hold onto a dipping ball after Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan had swatted Abrar Ahmed towards the same region.

Earlier in the match, Islamabad United openers Martin Guptill and Alex Hales took them past the 50-run mark inside the powerplay before the latter was deceived by Abrar Ahmed’s spin partner Akeal Hosein.

Guptill himself top-scored in the innings with a fluent 56 to his name while Agha Salman and captain Shadab Khan forged valuable contributions in the middle overs.

As it turned out, Shadab’s dismissal orchestrated by Khawaja Nafay’s fielding brilliance triggered a colossal batting collapse within the Islamabad United camp, as they slipped from 131-2 in 15 overs to 174-9 by the completion of their innings.

The match marks a must-win one for both sides, as the winner will be setting themselves a date with Peshawar Zalmi in the second Eliminator at the same venue on March 16.
