Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis pounded 62 runs off just 28 balls against SRH at the top and shared a double-quick 80-run stand with in-former opening partner Virat Kohli. 

The South African-based opening batter pumped out seven boundaries and four sixes in his turbulent knock, and led RCB’s batting charge while chasing a record Indian Premier League (IPL) total.

Amidst tumbling wickets at the other end following Kohli’s departure, Faf du Plessis’ all-out assault eventually came crashing down in front of his Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) counterpart Pat Cummins at the halfway stage of the innings.

Chasing an improbable 288 for a win, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis raced to a 23-ball half-century following an 80-run opening stand with Virat Kohli. Unfortunately for the RCB, the cricketer seemingly lost his momentum after the dismissal of number three batter Will Jacks at 100-2.

A couple of overs later, a raging Faf du Plessis was himself toppled by SRH captain Pat Cummins, courtesy of a sharp slower bouncer.

Faf du Plessis’ dismissal for a 28-ball 62 further dwindled RCB’s fortunes at 121-4. Moreover, Saurav Chauhan soon followed suite as RCB stumbled from 80-0 at one stage to a precarious 122-5 in 10 overs.

Earlier in the match, SRH charted a staggering 287-3 to record the highest-ever total in the history of IPL. Opener Travis Head slapped a 41-ball 102 and shared a 108-run opening partnership with Abhishek Sharma, before Heinrich Klaasen himself unleashed a 67-run fury from just 31 balls.

Aiden Markram (32* off 17) and Abdul Samad (37* off 10) also staged valiant contributions at the death to take SRH to their record total.
