Australia’s hard-hitting juggernaut Glenn Maxwell smeared 32 runs off 17 balls with two boundaries and three towering sixes at the SCG in match 11 of the BBL 2024-25 season. Maxwell launched the first of those sixes in the final ball of the eighth over of the innings, when he dispatched Sydney Sixers fast bowler Hayden Kerr into the stands over midwicket.

Maxwell’s sizzling cameo and Ben Duckett’s clobbering 29-ball 68 boosted the Melbourne Stars total to 194-9 from 20 overs after Sixers captain Moises Henriques won the toss and opted to field first. For the Sixers, Jackson Bird picked up three wickets in the innings at an expense of 35 runs in his three overs. Ben Dwarshuis and forgotten Australian spinner Todd Murphy also chipped in with two wickets each in the high-scoring innings.

Chasing 195, the Sydney Sixers consumed just 18.1 overs to blaze to 198-2. Opener James Vince orchestrated Sixers’ successful chase by listing his maiden BBL hundred. Josh Philippe (42 off 23) and unbeaten Jordan Silk (34* off 19) also unleashed valiant contributions to steer Sydney Sixers to the top of the BBL 2024-25 points table with third successive win.
