Texas Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis plucked some sensational catches in his side's win over the MI New York in match number seven of the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 season.

The cricketer collected three catches in the evening, including the two match-sealing ones in the final over of the contest. The catch he grabbed to help his teammate Daniel Sams dismiss Tim David turned out to be one of the highlights of the match and possibly one of the captivating moments of the tournament.


Faf du Plessis dives to grab a stunner

The game boiled down to MI New York requiring 21 runs to win off the final over, with a well-set Tim David taking strike. The burly Australian took a full-blooded swing against Daniel Sams' length delivery, which went miles up in the air only to be holed out by a diving Faf du Plessis near the straight boundary.

Notably, du Plessis also claimed a catch off the very next delivery, albeit a much simpler one to send Kagiso Rabada packing for a first-ball duck.

Earlier in the match, the Texas Super Kings amassed 154-7 off their 20 overs, with Devon Conway top-scoring in the innings through his 55-ball 74. His skipper and opening partner, du Plessis, failed to make much impact with the bat, as Rabada cleaned him up for just eight inside powerplay.

The total turned out to be a match-winning one as Super Kings restricted the MI New York reply to just 137. The skipper assisted his death bowlers with three catches, all during the back end of the match.

The win also catapulted Super Kings to the top of the MLC 2023 points table, dethroning Seattle Orcas from the spot.
