Chamari Athapaththu is one of the finest batters in women's cricket and whenever she gets going, she is very hard to stop. This match-winning quality makes her a huge asset for any team she plays for, and in BBL 2024, she is plying her trade for Sydney Thunder Women. She was expected to start her campaign with a bang, but it turned out to be an anti-climax, as she fell for first-ball duck against Hobart Hurricanes Women.

Hobart Hurricanes batted well and scored 141 while batting first. Chamari did well with the ball and picked two crucial wickets while Samantha Bates grabbed a three-wicket haul. Sydney Thunder openers, Chamari Athapaththu and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge walked out to the middle with positive intent, but the Lankan departed on the very first ball of the innings. 

Strano's Clever Delivery Catches Chamari Athapaththu Off-Guard

Strano started the proceedings with the ball and bowled a flat in-dipper from 'round the wicket. Chamari went back to play it, but the ball was too quick and hit her on the pads. It looked dead plumb as soon as the ball hit the pads, and the umpire raised a finger in a flash. It turned out to be a wicket-maiden, and Thunder went onto lose three wickets in the Powerplay. 

Phoebe Litchfield brought them back on a track with a score of 51 off 37 balls, and it is turning out to be an interesting game with both teams in with a chance to win the game.
