Ben Stokes gathered over 100 runs to revive England from their unwavering start against New Zealand in the third ODI of their four-match series. The star all-rounder overcame Trent Boult’s new-ball threat to form a 199-run third-wicket stand with opener Dawid Malan, as hosts soared past the 200-run mark without further casualty after being slumped to 13-2 in three overs.

Stokes’ innings marked only his fourth ODI century, and his second fifty-plus score in three innings since his comeback from retirement into England’s national side.

Ben Stokes belts career-best ODI score on comeback

Ben Stokes, who announced his ODI retirement last year, came back into the England’s national side at the behest of team’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler. The team management fast-tracked Stokes’ return in lieu of the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India next month.

The cricketer seems to be celebrating his ODI reboot, as he has already unleashed two clutch knocks in three innings for his country upon return. After listing 52 in his comeback match, Stokes belted his fourth ODI century to lift England from 13-2 towards a competitive total at The Oval.

Ben Stokes completed his century off just the 76th delivery of his innings. His latest knock also happens to be his career-best ODI score, eclipsing his 102* against Australia from the 2017 Champions Trophy.

Following Malan’s dismissal, Stokes partnered up with Jos Buttler as the two aim to take England past the 300-run mark.
