Mitchell Marsh's early blues for the ICC World Cup 2023 continued with another failure in Australia's second game of the marquee tournament on Thursday (October 12) in Lucknow. The imposing top-order aggressor was out after struggling through his 7 off 15 against the South Africans at the Ekana Stadium in the city.

The Western Australian, who was dismissed through to the slip cordon by ace Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah without troubling the scorers in the first match, was undone by Proteas left-arm quick Marco Jansen when he tried to shift the pressure back to the opposition and lofted one comfortably into the hands of South African captain Temba Bavuma.

Bavuma took an easy grab after Marsh tried to smash Jansen over the mid-on region but got a costly leading edge that saw the ball balloon across the mid-off area. Placed nearby, Bavuma showed his smarts and agility by quickly covering his ground for a safe catch to send the danger man back to the pavillion.

Chasing 312 after South Africa rallied on the shoulders of centurion Quinton de Kock to finish with an intimidating score of 311/7 on a dry surface in Lucknow, Marsh was absolute key to Australia's chances of hunting down the massive target.

An attacking start would've not only given the Aussies a strong early footing in their quest but also ruffled the opposition's feathers, potentially destroying their plans and denting their bowlers' lengths and spirits. However, Marsh let the five-time champions down for the second successive occasion with a poor dismissal under pressure.

Trying to smash the promising Jansen to the leg side, the hard-hitting batter got a thick edge that unintentionally flew towards the mid-off region. Marsh would've been bitterly disappointed with the manner of his dismissal after finding no flow or breathing space in the middle for his 15-ball 7.
