Ahmed Shehzad listed a well-compiled half-century against Sylhet Strikers in match number 16 of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 season. Turning up for Fortune Barishal in only his second game of the tournament, the cricketer produced 66 runs from 41 balls and belted nine boundaries and a couple of sixes in the process.

The 32-year-old Pakistan-based opening batsman had only arrived to Fortune Barishal camp late last week as an overseas replacement of T20 veteran Shoaib Malik.

Ahmed Shehzad steps up as Malik’s replacement

Out-of-favor Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad proved his T20 mettle by listing an impactful half-century against Sylhet Strikers at the latter’s home ground in Sylhet. Despite losing opening partner Tamim Iqbal and number three Pritom Kumar cheaply inside the powerplay, the cricketer punched out 66 scintillating runs aided with nine boundaries and two sixes.

Shehzad formed a handy third-wicket partnership with Soumya Sarkar, and his 41-ball knock took Fortune Barishal past the 100-run mark with nearly eight overs to spare in the innings.

Ahmed Shehzad’s calculated innings, coupled with Mahmudullah’s 51-run blitz set up Fortune Barishal’s 186-run total upfront. Later in the game, Barishal bowlers enveloped Sylhet Strikers’ entire batting line-up for just 137 to secure a 49-run victory.

Interestingly, Ahmed Shehzad had joined the Fortune Barishal on January 26 after senior Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik opted himself out of the tournament citing personal reasons.

Making his BPL 2024 debut with a match against Chattogram Challengers, Shehzad belted a sizzling 17-ball 39 at the top of the order. However, a subsequent middle-order collapse costed Barishal the game by 10 runs.

As of now, the Fortune Barishal is placed at number five on the seven-team BPL 2024 points table.
