Salem Spartans captain Abhishek Tanwar has delivered the most expensive final ball in T20 history. The speedster achieved the same during his side’s opening TNPL 2023 clash against the Chepauk Super Gillies in Coimbatore.

Tanwar, who had conceded just 18 runs off his first three overs, employed himself to bowl to the final over of the innings. The Super Gillies, placed at 191-5 prior to the final over, maximised Tanvar’s errors to mount 217 at the end.

Tanwar’s final ball yields 18 runs for Super Gillies

Abhishek Tanwar came into bowl at a time when Super Gillies' Sanjay Yadav and Uthirasamy Sasidev were batting at the crease.

While the Spartans skipper conceded just six runs off his first four deliveries, he rattled the stumps next up only for the umpire to declare it a front-foot no-ball. With eight runs off the five balls of the over, Tanwar’s plan and execution went awry as he faltered in his rhythm to concede three no-balls and a wide before finishing the over with a legal delivery.

Both batters maximised the situation and piled on the speedsters’ pain as they gathered an additional 18 runs off the ball, thus making it a 26-run over.

Tanvar, who had bowled well by that time, ended up conceding 44 runs off his four overs with a wicket to his name.

As it turned out, Chepauk Super Gillies’ 217-5 proved too big for the Salem Spartans as the latter lost the contest by 52 runs.

Super Gillies opener Pradosh Ranjan Paul was adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for bludgeoning a 55-ball 88 at the top.
