Smriti Mandhana has etched her name in the record books by smashing the fastest ODI fifty ever for India Woman. The swashbuckling southpaw achieved this incredible feat in just 23 balls during the third ODI against Australia in Delhi, chasing a record-breaking 413-run target.

Mandhana's Mayhem puts Australia's 413 Target in Danger

Mandhana walked in with intent and immediately disrupted Australia’s new-ball plans. Her timing was impeccable from the start, as she found the gaps with ease and punished anything full or wide. In a stunning display of controlled aggression, she reached her fifty off just 23 balls, hitting 9 boundaries and 2 massive sixes in the process.

This remarkable feat by Mandhana broke the previous record held by Richa Ghosh, who smashed a 26-ball fifty against New Zealand in 2022. Veda Krishnamurthy holds the third spot, having scored a 32-ball half-century against South Africa in 2018, showcasing India’s evolving firepower.

It was a fearless approach, one that India desperately needed after Australia, led by Beth Mooney’s brilliant century, posted an enormous total of 412, which is the highest against India in WODIs.

Mandhana’s Red-Hot Form Keeps India’s Hopes Alive in Series Decider

Despite the daunting target, Mandhana’s fireworks at the top gave India a dream start. She led the charge as India reached 96 runs in the 10-over powerplay, their highest powerplay score in WODIs. However, the innings did see some setbacks with the dismissals of Pratika and Harleen Deol, both falling just as they started to settle in.

Still, Mandhana’s explosive batting kept hopes alive for what could be an unthinkable chase. Her innings was not just about quick runs, but it was about belief, confidence, as the 29-year-old continues her red-hot form with the bat after scoring a match-winning century in the last game and now a blistering fifty in the series decider.
