Sanju Samson Completes 6,000 T20 Runs In Quest For Team India Recovery In Fifth T20I vs WI

Sanju Samson completed 6,000 runs in T20 cricket, just moments after he arrived to the crease in the fifth T20I against West Indies in Lauderhill. The right-hander, batting at number five, took guard in the middle within the eighth over of the innings following Tilak Varma’s dismissal.

In quest for a recovery, the cricketer got off to a blazing start alongside Suryakumar Yadav. However, against the run of play, Samson was caught behind by Nicholas Pooran off the bowling of Romario Shepherd after he tried steering the speedster through the offside.

Sanju Samson achieves major T20 milestone

Sanju Samson, who took field against West Indies in the fifth match with 5,998 T20 runs to his name, effortlessly completed 6,000 runs in the format off the second ball of his innings.

The perennial underachiever became only the 13th Indian batter in T20 history to surpass the landmark figure, and only the fourth specialist wicketkeeper-batsman to do so after MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul.

Samson was eventually dismissed for a nine-ball 13 by Romario Shepherd in the 11th over of the innings, thus taking his T20 tally to 6,011 runs in 246 matches.

The cricketer made his T20 debut back in 2011, and his international T20 debut for the Indian team in 2015. Out of his 246-match career, the dashing wicketkeeper-batter has featured in 152 of them in IPL.

In the meantime, Samson’s dismissal paved way for captain Hardik Pandya into the crease.

At the time of publishing, the Indian team reached 121-4 with rain stopping the proceedings.
