Sam Konstas smashes century vs India A (Source:@OneCricketApp/X.com)
Sam Konstas is a highly rated young batter in Australia, but after his debut fifty, the 19-year-old has struggled to find his feet in Test cricket. He struggled on the tour of the Caribbean on tough pitches, and there are doubts over his readiness for the highest level.
Sam Konstas Smashes Century For Australia A
To shut those noises, a batter needs to deliver whenever he gets an opportunity, and Sam Konstas has now done exactly that. In the first unofficial Test against India A, the Australia A batter smashed a century. He scored 109 off 144 balls and ensured, with his fellow opener, Campbell Kellaway, that Australia A got off to a superb start.
The Indian conditions are considered to be one of the toughest to bat for an Australian batter, and so a century would surely give young Sam Konstas a lot of confidence. Also, Sam Konstas did not back away from playing his shots against the likes of Prasidh Krishna, Khaleel Ahmed and other Indian bowlers.
Sam Konstas Shows Potency Against Spinners
He hit 10 fours and three sixes in his knock and was quite dominant against spinners, which is quite a big thing for an Australian batter in red-ball cricket. He scored 57 of his runs against spinners and did that in just 62 balls, showing the kind of authority and command he displayed against the likes of Tanush Kotian and Harsh Dubey.
Eventually, Harsh Dubey got the better of him as he cleaned him up in the 45th over of the innings. However, Sam Konstas, with this knock, has clearly made a big statement that he can be one of those Australian batters whom selectors can trust on tough tours of the subcontinent. It is just the start, though, and Sam Konstas would have to keep his consistency to make a strong claim for a Test opening spot again.
