In a significant milestone, current Indian captain Rohit Sharma has surpassed former skipper Virat Kohli to etch his name in the record books as the Indian captain with the most runs in T20 Internationals.

Rohit Sharma, currently leading India in a bilateral T20I series against Afghanistan, slammed a commanding half-century when the rest of the pack crumbled on one end in front of his eyes. Yet, the man with two ducks to his name in the series took it upon himself to guide India to a competitive total. He slammed a scintillating ton to keep India in the hunt.

Having said that, Rohit Sharma scripted new records with the resilient knock against Afghanistan. He became the only captain across the globe with the most number of sixes in the T20 format.

Most Runs By An Indian Captain In T20Is

  • Rohit Sharma : 1573 runs in 54 innings
  • Virat Kohli : 1570 runs in 46 innings
  • MS Dhoni : 1112 runs in 62 innings
  • Suryakumar Yadav : 300 runs in 7 innings
  • Hardik Pandya : 296 runs in 15 innings

Besides, in a significant milestone, Sharma surpassed former Indian captain and cricket icon Virat Kohli to become the Indian captain with the most T20 runs in his name. While Virat had scored 1570 runs in 46 innings, Sharma edged past with 1573 runs owing to his sturdy knock vs Afghanistan.

Notably, it took Rohit 54 innings to reach this feat. Regardless, with the new record, Rohit Sharma has further established his authority as a successful Indian skipper.

MS Dhoni, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya are the next three captains on the list with 1112, 300, and 296 runs, respectively.

That being said, ever since Rohit Sharma succeeded Virat Kohli to don the captaincy badge, he had a mixed run. While India lost the ODI World Cup and World Test championship under his watch, the team’s remarkable run in the league stage will be remembered for a long haul.

Moreover, with the T20 World Cup just around the corner, Rohit’s return to form is a positive omen with respect to India’s campaign.
