Cometh the hour cometh the man and Indian captain Rohit Sharma delivered against Afghanistan in the ongoing third T20I at Bangalore.

With India under pressure after being four down for 22, Sharma overcame a probing spell by Afghanistan bowlers and found his rich form that eluded the opener in the first two T20Is, while slamming his fifth T20I century.

With his fifth T20I ton, Sharma has now surpassed fellow India and Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate Suryakumar Yadav (4) and Glenn Maxwell to become the batter with most centuries in men's T20Is.

The 36-year-old's record-breaking fifth T20I hundred came in 64 deliveries, having first slammed a ton in the 20-overs international format in 2015.

Behind Sharma and Yadav, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul comes in third place with two, with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli coming in at No.4 and No.5 with one each.

This was Sharma's first T20 hundred after 2019, that helped him became the only batter in T20I history to record five tons. All of Sharma's five T20I tons have come against different nationals - South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, England, and Afghanistan.

Sharma along with Rinku Singh added 190* runs for the fifth wicket, which is the highest for India in T20Is for any wicket, bettering Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda's 176-run stand against Ireland in 2022.

Sharma's 121 is also the fourth-highest T20I individual score for an Indian batter, which Shubman Gill heads by 126*, followed by Ruturaj Gaikwad's 123* and Kohli's 122*.
