Rashid Khan made it to a historic list with his stunning spell in the first ODI of Afghanistan vs Bangladesh at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 8. Rashi scalped three wickets in the match from his ten overs. This made Khan etch his name in the second position on an elite list for spinners in the ODI format.

Rashid Khan's 3-fer takes him past legends

The match is currently ongoing, and Bangladesh is already in tatters as they are struggling to put up a score above 200. With Rashid bowling a solid 10-over quota and picking three wickets at a very low economy rate of 3.80.

Rashid is now only the second spinner in ODIs after Saqlain Mushtaq from Pakistan, to reach the fastest 200 ODI wickets as a spinner (from 115 matches).

Rashid Khan's three wickets, all of them LBWs, came as he first dismissed Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 39th over, Jaker Ali in the 41st over, and Nurul Hasan in the 45th over. All three LBW dismissals underline his dominance with his spin and make him stand tall in a list that carries legendary names like Shane Warne and Anil Kumble.

Fastest to 200 Wickets for Spinners in ODIs by matches:

  • 104 – Saqlain Mushtaq (Pakistan)
  • 115 - Rashid Khan (Afghanistan)
  • 125 - Shane Warne (Australia)
  • 137 - Adil Rashid (England)
  • 147 - Anil Kumble (India)

Speaking of Bangladesh's batting performance, the team won the toss and came in to bat first, where opener Saif Hassan scored 26 runs and Tanzid Hasan disappointed with only 10. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was expected to play a big knock, was sent back for only two runs.

It was only Towhid Hridoy and Mehidy who formed a partnership of 101 runs to save Bangladesh's face.
