It's time for the grand finale of the Asia Cup 2023 as Sri Lanka take on India at the iconic R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. It has been quite a riveting tournament despite rain playing spoilsport on quite a few occasions and though there are chances of rain in the final too, the chances of complete washout is minimal with reserve day also available.

Sri Lanka are the defending champions having won the Asia Cup in 2022 in T20 format and once again, they have punched above their weight, by beating Pakistan and making it to the big final. India, on the other hand, are coming into the final on the back of a shocking loss against Bangladesh and expect them to come hard in the final with the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj set to be back.

Axar Patel has been ruled out of the final and Washington Sundar has replaced him. Theekshana is also not available for the final and it would be interesting to see the team combination of both the teams for this summit clash of Asia Cup. It all depends on the pitch though and so, let's dive into the details of the pitch for this all-important Asia Cup final.

R Premadasa Stadium Colombo Pitch Report

The pitches in Premadasa Stadium have been pretty difficult to judge in this Asia Cup. We have seen some big scores like India's 356 against Pakistan. However, the same India have been bundled out on 213 by Sri Lanka while they failed to chase down 266 as well against Bangladesh.

So, it all depends on which turf is being used and going by the news that is coming forward, the pitch that was used for India-Bangladesh game, will be used again in the final. Traditionally, R. Premadasa is known to assist spinners but in the game between India and Bangladesh, both the pacers and spinners got help.

However, the batters who were able to apply themselves like Shubman Gill and Shakib Al Hasan, did score runs and the pitch provides good balance between bat and ball. Batting also gets difficult under lights, and the pitch tends to turn more in the second half. So, it promises to be a healthy battle between bat and ball and we might see a pretty close game between two quality sides.
