MS Dhoni's stumping against Sunil Narine (Source:@imajityadv/X.com)
MS Dhoni is now 43-year-old, but is still one of the fastest with gloves behind the stumps. His lightening fast stumpings have mesmerized the cricketing world for over two decades now, and it has continued in IPL 2025 as well.
MS Dhoni Turns On His Wicketkeeping Magic vs KKR
Now, in the 57th game of IPL 2025 between KKR and CSK, MS Dhoni unleashed his magic again to get rid of Sunil Narine. On the first ball of the 8th over, Sunil Narine tried to hit one out of the park. He advanced down the track for his slog, but Noor Ahmad with his flight and turn, got the better of him. Narine only managed to get an inside edge and the ball rolled on the ground after hitting his pad.
MS Dhoni was, as always, very aware and picked the ball quickly, whipping the bails off before Narine could get back to his crease. MSD's action though raised concern over the legality of the stumping as he collected the ball ahead of the stumps, with many people claiming that it is against the rules of the game.
According to the ICC rules, the batter cannot be stumped if the keeper's gloves are ahead of the stumps and it would be called a no-ball. However, the rule applies from the moment the bowler starts his run-up and until the ball passes the stumps or touches the batter or the bat. In this case, the ball touched the bat as well as the batter and that is why it was within the rules for Dhoni to get his gloves ahead of stumps and complete his stumping act.
Thus, Sunil Narine was given out and it proved to be a turning point in the game, as Noor Ahmad also got the better of Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the same over, and KKR lost the early momentum.
