MCA Stadium Pune Pitch Report For AUS vs BAN World Cup Match

Australia and Bangladesh will keep a close eye on ground conditions and pitch of the scenic MCA Stadium in Pune as they enter battleground for Match 43 of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Saturday (November 11).

Known for being a high-scoring venue with a fast skiddy surface and true bounce that enable consistent stroke-making, the Pune track for the coming Australia-Bangladesh clash could transform into a slightly drier playing surface for what will be the last match of the tournament at this ground.

With four previous league matches held, the surface showcased signs of gradually drying out towards the fag end of the previous fixture held in Pune between England and Netherlands.

A similar patch with more wear and tear could establish a level playing field for Bangladesh who would be in desperate need of all possible support to compete against Australia.

A victory is necessary for Bangladesh to ensure they don't slip down to one of the bottom two slots in the World Cup standings and fail to make the cut for the Champions Trophy 2025.

The Bangla Tigers are still placed eighth and ahead of Sri Lanka after their impressive win in Delhi but a heavy defeat to the Aussies would crash them below the Lankan Lions and rob them of the opportunity to compete for the next ICC 50-over event.

Usually a batting paradise, a quick turnaround from the England-Netherlands game could turn the high-scoring surface in Pune into a drier pitch bringing spinners more into play and testing the batters, especially in the second half with the pressure of a target on board.

For pacers to succeed at the venue, they could depend on their slower deliveries and cutters to extract uneven bounce on a spongy pitch to create indecisiveness in the batters' minds. Australia's tall-statured seamers would relish such conditions and are expected to make life difficult for a Bangladesh side missing key batter Shakib Al Hasan.
