Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne has stated that the pitch at Gabba, Brisbane was not 'ideal' for Test cricket.

Overall 34 wickets fell in less than 145 overs as the game was done and dusted within two days. South Africa gave a target of just 34 runs, which the hosts chased down with 6 wickets in hand.

Aussie skipper Pat Cummins reckons that the surface at Gabba was fine for the Test match but Labuschagne has a different take on it.

Not ideal for Test cricket

"I think everyone understands that this is not we want, that's not the ideal scenario. We love the pace of the wicket, we love the bounce, we love two great fast bowling attacks going at it, but if we are going to finish in under two days it's obviously not ideal for Test cricket."

He added: "It felt like a Shield game. We've seen a fair few wickets like that (at the Gabba), but obviously, you don't have two sides with bowling attacks of four or five guys bowling over 150 km/h, that's the probably the difference."

Even Australia's vice-captain Steve Smith said that the wicket in the first Test was 'probably the most challenging wicket he has seen in Australia.'

The second Test between the two sides commences from December 26 at MCG.
