Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill dominated the Aussie bowlers right throughout the first half of the first innings. Despite losing Gaikwad very early, the duo put on a belligerent stand of 200 in the space of 164 balls to give the Men in Blue a solid platform to launch from during the death overs.

After missing out on the first ODI, Iyer notched his third ton in ODI cricket during the 30th over which came at a scintillating strike rate of 116.27. But in the following over, Iyer’s valiant stay at the crease nearly came to an end when he geared up to face Sean Abbott.

In the third delivery, Abbott delivered a straighter ball on middle stump line to which Iyer jabbed at it with hard hands. As a result, the ball lobbed up in the air and went straight towards the non-striker. Abbott dived diagonally to his right and pulled of a miraculous catch.

However, the TV umpire wanted to have another look at that dismissal to ensure whether the catch was taken cleanly. After closer inspection, it was revealed that the ball subsequently made contact with the ground after it had gone into the hands of Abbott.

During this time, the incoming batsman Kl Rahul had already made his way to the center assuming that Iyer was dismissed. But much to his surprise, the TV umpire made a late decision of deeming that not out and Rahul had to make the long walk back to the dressing room.

Iyer was eventually dismissed for 105 by Abbott two balls later while trying to clear the long boundaries at cow corner region. At the time of writing, India were comfortably placed at 249/3 after 35 overs and had their eyes firmly set on a huge total.
