On his T20I captaincy debut, Indian cricket sensation Jasprit Bumrah etched his name into the annals of the sport with a standout feat. Bumrah's return to the international scene after a 367-day hiatus, attributed to a back injury, was nothing short of spectacular. The limelight shone brightly on him as he embarked on the first T20I of the three-match series against Ireland.

Bumrah's presence on the field garnered significant attention. Making his presence felt, he conceded a boundary off his initial delivery, but the following moments showcased his prowess. Swiftly recovering, the skipper seized a wicket with the second ball and added another to his tally with the fifth. The dynamic performance set the tone as India asserted dominance by deploying six bowlers within the first ten overs.

India deployed six bowlers within the first ten overs, setting the tone for their dominance in the match. Bumrah's contributions were nothing short of exemplary, as he closed his full quota of overs with remarkable figures of 2/24. This notable performance was accompanied by a tally of 16 dot balls, underscoring his mastery in controlling the opposition.

The pinnacle of Bumrah's debut as T20 captain came from his selection as the Player of the Match. A dual celebration unfolded as he clinched victory in the first T20I on his captaincy debut and claimed the coveted Player of the Match award. This double honour speaks volumes about his leadership capabilities and his prowess as a player.

Before Bumrah, ten other players, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, have led the Indian T20I side. Yet, none of them secured the Player of the Match award on their captaincy debut.

Notably, Bumrah's execution of yorkers and wily variations during the death overs left opponents spellbound. Consistently clocking speeds of 135kph, he proved to be a formidable force, conceding only one run in the crucial 19th over. This tight grip on the game paved the way for India's triumph by two runs in the DLS method following rain disruptions at Malahide.
