The Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to collide in the latter’s home base in match number 25 of the ongoing IPL 2023 season. The two teams have endured identical campaigns so far, with both securing two wins and two defeats from their respective four fixtures.

Ahead of the much-awaited clash in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, here we look at how both teams have fared this season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The SRH, under interim skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar, went down to the Rajasthan Royals by 72 runs in their tournament opener. Lack of proper execution by the bowlers, coupled with a lack of intent in the run-chase led to their massive downfall, thus sustaining a huge blow to their net run rate in the opening game itself.

Regular captain Aiden Markram’s presence for the second match did not make much difference either, as they lost to Lucknow Super Giants with four overs remaining.

Remarkably, Markram’s SRH found footing thereafter, as they thumped Punjab Kings and KKR in their subsequent two fixtures with big margins. The ‘Orange Army’ currently stands at number nine on the points table and a win against Mumbai Indians might elevate them to top four.

Mumbai Indians

Much like the SRH, the Mumbai Indians also lost their opening two fixtures. Rohit Sharma and co. failed to defend competitive totals against RCB and CSK, but came back to hunt down Delhi Capitals and KKR in their next two outings.

Chasing seems to be the flavour of the season for Sharma’s troops, as they won both their games in the second innings and lost on both instances when they were asked to bat first.

As of now, the Mumbai Indians stand at number eight on the points table, just above SRH owing to a slightly superior net run-rate.
