IPL 2023, DC vs MI: MI Clinch Last-Ball Thriller in a Dramatic Run-Chase

Mumbai Indians (MI) inched past Delhi Capitals (DC) in a cracker of a game as they got over the line in the final ball of the match. The momentum kept swinging from one side to another throughout the game but with MI needing 5 runs off the last over, Tim David and Cameron Green held their nerves to guide MI to their first victory of the season.

It means that DC are still winless this season and have now lost 4 games in a row. MI, on the other hand, are up and running in IPL 2023 now with this 6-wicket win.

MI Bowlers Deliver Strong Performance as Warner fails to up the ante again

MI bowlers have come under heavy scrutiny this season and there has been a lot of talk about MI being short of quality bowlers. However, they lifted their game nicely after Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Hrithik Shokeen provided an early breakthrough by getting rid of Prithvi Shaw in the fourth over and after that Piyush Chawla turned back the clock with a beautiful spell in the middle overs. He bagged three wickets and ran through DC's middle order as they ended up being 98-5 in the 13th over. Axar, however, walked into the middle with some great intent and smashed 54 off 25 balls as Warner held one end up. The DC Skipper also ended up scoring a fifty but once Axar lost his wicket in the 19th over, DC crumbled and were bowled out for 172.

Jason Behrendorff bowled well in the death and picked three wickets along with Riley Meredith who impressed in his first game of the season with two wickets.

Australian Duo of Green-David Take Mumbai over the line in a tense chase

172 was a tricky chase but Rohit Sharma and  Ishan Kishan started off with a bang as MI went onto score 68 runs in the Powerplay. Ishan Kishan, unfortunately was run out in the 8th over but Rohit continued and Tilak Varma who was promoted up the order showed his class yet again. Rohit scored his first fifty since IPL 2021 while Tilak at the other end, also played an entertaining knock of 41 from just 29 balls. However, two wickets in two balls by Mukesh Kumar in 16th over changed the momentum yet again as the tension started rising in the Mumbai camp.

Mustafizur Rahman then picked up a big wicket of Rohit Sharma in the very next over and it was down to the young Australian duo of Green and David to finish off the chase. The game again looked done and dusted with just 5 needed off the last over as David and Green managed to score 15 runs in the penultimate over. Nortje though showed lot of heart in the final over and took the game right down to the wire.

It came down to 2 needed off the final delivery and somehow, yes somehow Tim David and Cameron Green managed to steal a second run to take their team over the line. The result would be a big relief for Rohit Sharma and his boys after losing their opening two games.  Overall, it was a game that had lot of drama and excitement and games like these make IPL one of the most exciting tournament in the world.
