Delhi Capitals made a brilliant comeback in an almost-lost cause and won the 34th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) against Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven runs.

Delhi Batting vs SRH

Earlier, Warner won the toss and decided to bat first in the match. In a big change made by the Capitals' management, Prithvi Shaw was dropped for the match, and Philip Salt opened the innings with David Warner. But unfortunately for them, Salt was dismissed on the first delivery he faced in the match.

Mitchell Marsh joined Warner, and the Australian all-rounder looked in great touch from the beginning of his innings. He played a fiery knock of 25 runs from 15 balls before being trapped leg before wicket by T Natarajan.

When Marsh was dismissed, DC were 39 for two in just 4.4 overs. After this, they completely lost their way as Washington Sundar bowled a lethal over, picking up three wickets in the 8th over of the innings. From 57 for 2 in 7.1 overs, DC were down to 62 for 5 in 8 overs.

Manish Pandey (34 off 27) and Axar Patel (34 off 34) battled it out for the Capitals. Due to the duo's resilience, the Capitals ultimately reached 144 runs for the loss of 9 nine wickets in their 20 overs.

SRH chase vs DC

In the chase, Mayank Agarwal (49 off 39) held the innings together for the Sunrisers and batted with great composure. They batted slowly in the first half of the innings. After the first ten overs ended, SRH were stationed at 58 for 1.

The Hyderabad innings went downhill from there on. The fall of Agarwal started a collapse in which SRH lost four wickets for just 16 runs. The comeback that the DC bowlers staged left 56 runs to be scored by SRH from the last 30 balls with five wickets.

Washington Sundar carried forward his excellent work from bowling to batting. Along with Heinrich Klaasen (31 off 19), Sundar took them close to victory. They needed 13 runs to win the match in the last over, and it was Mukesh Kumar to who Warner handed over the responsibility.

But Mukesh Kumar kept calm and bowled brilliant lengths to defend the target for his team. He conceded five runs in the over; with that, DC won the match by seven runs. This is their second victory in IPL 2023, and they will be keen on keeping this momentum going further into the tournament.
