Lucknow Super Giants’ young spinner Digvesh Rathi has been grabbing attention; not just for his performance, but also for his unique celebrations after taking wickets. The Delhi-based player is known for his eye-catching style, and sometimes even gets fined for it.
Digvesh Rathi Removes Sunil Narine For 30 Runs
Today, on April 8, during an IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Rathi celebrated again after taking a huge wicket; none other than his idol, Sunil Narine.
It happened in the 7th over of KKR’s innings. Rathi bowled a googly, full and wide outside off. Narine tried to hit it over long-off, but only managed to hit it from the toe end of his bat. The ball didn’t go far, and Aiden Markram, fielding near the boundary, ran to his right and took a safe sliding catch. Narine was out.
But what stole the spotlight was Rathi’s celebration. Even though he had already received demerit points and fines earlier in the season, he did his famous notebook celebration again; but with a twist. Instead of pretending to write in a notebook on his hand like before, this time he bent down and acted like he was writing on the ground.
Digvesh Rathi On Verge Of Getting Suspended
So far this season, Rathi has already been fined twice for breaking the Level 1 Code of Conduct. He’s also received three demerit points and lost 50% of his match fee. If he gets one more demerit point, he’ll have to miss a match, according to IPL rules.
The demerit points stay on a player’s record for 36 months, so Rathi needs to be more careful in the upcoming games and seasons.
