Travis Head continued his love affair with India while Steve Smith regained his lost rhythm by smacking domineering centuries on Day 2 of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane. For India, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah accounted for five of the seven fallen wickets of the day.

Here’s the timeline of how AUS vs IND panned out in Brisbane:

AUS vs IND Highlights: Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Reddy Strike Early

Overnight Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney failed to survive Jasprit Bumrah’s opening burst on Day 2 as both well-set batters were dismissed by the Indian quick within the first few minutes of play. Marnus Labuschagne at number three grinded out for 55 deliveries and staged a 37-run partnership with Travis Head before his attempted drive off Nitish Kumar Reddy flew straight towards Virat Kohli at second slip.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Travis Head, Steve Smith Mount Centuries In Colossal Stand

Forming forces with Travis Head at 75-3 in 33.2 overs, out-of-form Steve Smith snapped his run-drought with a scintillating century. The legendary Australian batter defied Indian bowlers for a major part of the day during his 190-ball marathon knock, and his 241-run partnership with Head for the fourth wicket took his team past the 300-run mark in the final session of the day.

Travis Head himself continued his love affair with Indian bowlers by bringing up his ninth Test century, third against India and second in succession this Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Reaching the landmark figure in just 115 balls, Head hauled 152 runs from 160 balls with 18 boundaries before nicking one towards Rishabh Pant off Jasprit Bumrah.

AUS vs IND Highlights: Bumrah Completes Five, Carey Takes Australia To Stumps

Jasprit Bumrah dismissed both Australian centurions as well as toppled Mitchell Marsh to complete his 12th five-wicket haul in Tests. A struggling Mohammed Siraj also found some solace towards the closing stages of play with the wicket of Australian captain Pat Cummins.

For the hosts, Alex Carey at number seven took on the Indian bowlers from the get go and reached a near run-a-ball 45* by stumps. The wicketkeeper-batter will resume Australia’s first innings on Day 3 at 405-7 alongside fellow unbeaten Mitchell Starc (7*).
