The Vadodara crowd is buzzing with excitement as the India Women’s side is crossing swords with West Indies Women. After a commanding victory in the previous game, Team India gave a dominating start to the second match. But West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews’s incredible century while chasing the target grabbed the limelight.
Matthews’ Courageous Century Knock
The ongoing ODI series between India Women and West Indies is turning up the temperature with some exciting thrills. After winning the first match of the series, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. carried on the momentum in the second one. After putting on a huge total, the home side put pressure on the visitors. While chasing the target, Hayley Matthews’ breathtaking century grabbed the attention.
After a shaky start with some early wickets falling, Hayley Matthews took charge and played the anchor’s role. She brought up the vital half-century and reached her 7th ODI ton with a single in the 35th over. In a mere 99 balls, Matthews’ century kept her team in the hunt.
While opening the innings, the skipper played an incredible knock of 106 runs in just 109 balls. She dazzled with 13 boundaries while showing no mercy to the Indian bowlers. Along with that, she completed 5000 runs in international cricket. That gave a huge boost to the visitor’s innings.
West Indies lose the series
Hayley Matthews and Co. are having a tough time playing on Indian soil. After facing a massive defeat in the opening ODI match of the series, they are facing setbacks in the ongoing second match. While bowling in the first innings, they failed to make an impact. Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal dazzled with half-centuries and Harleen Deol scored her first-ever international hundred.
Chasing a daunting total of 359 runs, the West Indies batting lineup crumbled under pressure. They lost a few wickets consecutive which put pressure on the visiting side. While opening the innings, Matthews' century kept their hope alive. Shemaine Campbelle added a crucial 38 runs in 48 balls, but that wasn't enough as the hosts sealed the win.
