Shreyas Iyer has been in fantastic form in domestic cricket, continuing to impress after his victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Now, he's making his mark in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, where Mumbai are facing Karnataka at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.

As the tournament kicked off, the Mumbai skipper delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing his top form. Iyer, stepping in at number 4 in the 50-over format, proved why he's such a key player for his team. He struck an amazing century in just 50 balls, which included 5 fours and 9 sixes. It was a thrilling display of his white-ball cricket skills.

Alongside Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav contributed 20 runs off 16 balls, while Shivam Dube played a brilliant knock, remaining unbeaten on 63. Iyer also stayed not out, with a spectacular 114 runs off 55 balls to his name.

Mumbai Put Karnataka On Back Foot

Earlier in the game, Karnataka chose to bowl first against a strong Mumbai side but struggled to contain the aggressive batsmen as Mumbai posted a massive 383 runs on the board. Ayush Mhatre played a solid knock, scoring 78 runs, while Hardik Tamore contributed 84 runs off 94 balls.

Despite their efforts, Karnataka's bowlers couldn't stop the onslaught. Praveen Dubey was the standout bowler for Karnataka, taking 2 wickets, while Vidyadhar Patil and Shreyas Gopal each claimed 1 wicket. Mumbai’s explosive batting ensured they set a daunting target for Karnataka in opening match.
