Jos Buttler began his career in IPL with Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2016. After two successful seasons, Buttler was bought by Rajasthan Royals in 2018. He played for the Royals for as many as seven seasons and registered a record season in 2022. He slammed four tons and finished with 863 runs to win the Orange Cap. 

However, in IPL 2025, he entered the mega auction pool. During the auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Buttler’s bidding war escalated to over INR 15 crore before GT bought him for INR 15.75 crore.

As of IPL 2025 season, Jos Buttler was the part of Gujarat Titans (GT). He was released by Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the 2025 mega auction and the Englishman attracted a lot of bidders given his past records and performance. While RR tried to buy him back, GT outbid them to secure Buttler for a whooping salary of INR 15.75 crore.

Rajasthan Royals tried to retain him but were eventually outbid by the Titans. The price reflected Buttler's consistent performances and reputation as one of the best T20 players in the world.

Jos Buttler's worth in IPL auctions has steadily increased over the years, reflecting his rise as one of the most sought-after T20 players. In the 2016 IPL auction, he was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 3.8 crore. 

He was then acquired by RR in the 2018 auction at INR 4.4 crore, continuing his journey in the IPL. However, in the 2022 season, RR retained him for INR 10 crore.
