Why Will Alyssa Healy Be The One To Watch Out For In India vs Australia Women's Test?

The biggest challenge in Alyssa Healy’s life is about to begin shortly. On December 21, the Bollywood film city and the country's financial pulse shall see an Australian woman- bold, gritty, resilient- take on a challenge that might just complement her personality.

Not only shall the one-off Test against India be one to savour for Healy, it'll have the makings to be one of the ages.

While on the one hand, there's this inexplicable absurdity about the Australia women's tour of India featuring just one Test match alone, the precursor to the white ball contests, there's this palpable sense of excitement to the contest on the other.

And that's simply down to the fact that a brand new chapter in Australia women's cricket is about to begin under the hopefully watchful eyes of Alyssa Healy.

To put it mildly, it's the first time in several years that an Australian team shall enter a cricket ground for an international sans its Mega legend: Meg Lanning.

In these circumstances, Alyssa Healy's role becomes crucial as not just the benefactor of a leadership position that's about as coveted as it is riddled with responsibilities, but it eggs on others to bring out their A game.

And that's pretty much how the Aussies play their game; their level of competitiveness and ferocity with both bat and ball is akin to a school goers who likes to frequently ace A grades for nothing else would work.

But then having no longer the reputed services of Lanning is more than just the new normal for the Australian women; it is a tricky and perhaps even unsettling situation that'll warrant the others to step in to support a captain who, in the recent past, has, as a matter of fact, stepped on the leader's hat, albeit sporadically and occasionally.

This brand new India assignment is Mrs Starc's most nervy test, which fans back home Down Under would hope she aces much like her pompous strokes down the long-on and mid-wicket region.

But then, there's reason to believe that Alyssa Healy is about as candid in her approach to a cricket contest as is her demeanour off the pitch: uncomplicated, chilled out and to the point. No B.S; pure batting temerity, Which is where it's going to get exciting for the Indian troika of Harmanpreet, Mandhana and Rodrigues, pretty much the think tank of the eleven who'll take the field at the revered Wankhede.

But then, let it not be forgotten that the sense of occasion is going to be huge. Arguably speaking, two of the most spectacular forces take on the field in the epicentre of cricketing action in the world's most populous nation with cricketing heavyweights on either side.

Imagine the sense of the contest- Perry v Mandhana, Jemimah v Tahlia and Harmanpreet vs Healy is all set to have us on tenterhooks from December 21 to 24. Can it possibly get better? Healy would, no arguments in this case as one reckons, like to play her part, a captain's hand. At 33, she's no stranger to life's unprecedented challenges. Nor is she any stranger to big knocks scored under pressure.

Remember her heroics as a giver of a fluent start to the Aussies in the women's T20 World Cup in 2020? Remember her most dazzling stat to date when, in April 2022, she breached the 2,500 ODI run mark courtesy of a run-a-ball century v England in the World Cup finals?

In that effort, and her Indian counterparts would love to remember, the newly appointed Aussie captain was part of the highest partnership ever achieved in any World Cup final: a 160-run stand that came off 175 deliveries with Haynes at the other end.

In the 2020 World T20 finals, Healy mesmerised Aussie fans while crushing the hopes of Indians during a whirlwind 75 off 39. She proved to be unstoppable back then. She's unstoppable as on date. Picture those 31 international fifties, 6 tons, and some 5,214 white ball runs.

And that's, well assured, will be her approach as she takes on a coterie of Indian bowlers, who, lest it is forgotten, will come hard at her, whether it's Renuka, Deepti, Vastrakar or Rana. Alyssa Healy, ball smasher, bowler destroyer, and a frequent milestone gatherer, will be unsparing and unstoppable, should she have her way, against India. A contest to watch out for lies right up our alley. Don't miss out.
