Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana is set to play Sourav Ganguly in a lead role in the cricketer’s long-awaited biopic. If recent reports are to be believed, the production house Luv Ranjan Films have already roped in the actor for the role.

The movie was first announced back in September 2021 when the production house confirmed their collaboration with Ganguly for the project. The former Indian captain himself shared the news on his social media accounts.

Sourav Ganguly biopic gets its lead actor

Ayushmann Khurana has been reportedly chosen to play the role of Sourav Ganguly in his much-awaited biopic titled ‘Dada’, pipping Ranbir Kapoor who was previously considered for the role.

Much like Ganguly, actor Khurana is also a left-hander which worked in his favour in attaining the major profile.

A biopic movie based on the former Indian captain was first announced back in 2021 itself, after movie surrounding MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar’s lives turned out to be cinematic success.

Earlier this year, Ganguly took to X (formerly Twitter) and teased an update without much context. He shared an image which read “leading with”. While many fans of the cricketer failed to make out much from his cryptic message, others assumed it to be hint regarding a possible update for his biopic.

Sourav Ganguly is widely considered among one of the greats of Indian cricket, and one of the best batsmen in the world. As a captain, he led the Indian team to a then-record 21 Test wins, and also guided them to the final of the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, where they fell short of a rampaging Australian team.

Having played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs in his career, the left-hander piled up over 18,000 runs in both formats all while silently harvesting 132 wickets with his medium pace.
