When it comes to cricket, Indian legend Ravichandran Ashwin is known for his sharp mind and brilliant bowling. However, when it came to proposing to his now-wife Prithi Narayanan, Ashwin went with his instinct, proving that sometimes the best moments are the unplanned ones.

Ashwin and Prithi Open Up On Their Love Story

Ravichandran Ashwin and Prithi’s story goes way back to their school days.

“We kind of knew each other in middle school. We were classmates, that’s it. Nothing more than that,” Prithi shared in an interview with 7Cricket where the pair opened up on how they met and their live story.

Life happened, and they drifted apart. But fate had other plans. Years later, when Ashwin’s cricket career was picking up steam, the two reconnected.

“I was playing for CSK. I got my contract. It was all very new. When you went into an IPL bubble, that’s when you end up in some shoots. That’s when I met her after a long time,” Ashwin said.

The spark reignited, and soon, they were spending more time together.


How Ashwin Proposed His Wife Prithi?

Ashwin’s proposal wasn’t your typical candlelight-dinner kind of thing. In fact, it wasn’t planned at all. It happened at the Chemplast Cricket Ground, a place Ashwin felt at home.

“The intention wasn’t to propose. I was just taking her out. None of what I do is planned. I do things instinctively and try and patch things around it,” he confessed.

In true Ashwin fashion, he dropped the big question mid-conversation. “He dropped the bomb very early and then kind of saw what fell into place,” Prithi Narayanan added with a laugh as she stated how it caught her off guard.

Despite the unplanned nature of the proposal, it worked like a charm. The couple got engaged in a simple ceremony in 2011, followed by a grand wedding on November 13, 2011.

Ashwin and Prithi didn’t just stop at being a power couple. They built a family together, welcoming their daughters Akhira and Aadhya in 2015 and 2016.

It is worth mentioning that Prithi isn’t just known as Ashwin’s wife. She’s a B.Tech graduate, just like him, and a trained classical dancer.

Meanwhile, the legendary spinner recently called time on his international career which saw him bag 765 wickets across formats out of which 537 came in Tests. He ended up as India’s second highest wicket taker in Test cricket behind Anil Kumble.
