Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, is a sprinting legend who redefined athletics history. But in a shocking revelation, Jamaican legend confessed that his first love was not running but cricket.
The sprint king retired in 2017, but the records he left behind are unbreakable. His 100 m world record of 9.58 seconds still stands strong, along with his legacy of eight Olympic gold medals and 11 World Championship titles.
Yet, behind the medals and world records was a boy who once dreamed with a bat and ball in hand.
Usain Bolt opens up on love for cricket
As DreamSetGo’s brand ambassador, Usain Bolt visited India and spoke at the Fireside Chat held at Jamnabai Narsee Campus in Mumbai. Bolt shared that he was a massive cricket fan growing up.
Watching cricket impacted his work ethic and encouraged him to challenge himself in track and field. He also attributed the discipline and resolve of cricketers for inspiring him to pursue greatness.
"For me, I was a huge cricket fan growing up. Watching the talent, the way they worked, pushed themselves, and carried themselves inspired me at a young age to work hard and be the best I could be," Bolt said.
Jamaica has produced some of the world’s finest cricketers, Michael Holding, Courtney Walsh, Chris Gayle, and Jeff Dujon, figures who may have left an imprint on the young Usain Bolt before he turned to athletics.
Bolt to play football in India
