While cricket fans are habituated to seeing cricket icons in front of cameras for brand endorsements, India's very beloved 'Dada', stepped in the shoes of an actor for a full-fledged web series! In an unexpected career pivot, cricketing icon Sourav Ganguly has ventured into acting.

Featuring in a promotional advertisement for Netflix’s upcoming web series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter (Khakee 2), Ganguly was seen sporting a police uniform in the promo. In the trailer, Ganguly's voiceover can also be heard for a few seconds which underlines his potential role as a law enforcement officer in the series.

Sourav Ganguly Shoots For Promotional Advertisement 

The advertisement, filmed at Kolkata’s Binodini Studio in Baruipur, showcases Sourav Ganguly in khaki attire, with behind-the-scenes images rapidly circulating online. While his exact involvement in the series remains undisclosed, his cameo has amplified anticipation for the show, which stars renowned actors Jeet and Prosenjit Chatterjee. 

Produced by Sri Venkatesh Films, the promo marks Ganguly’s first foray into acting, adding a fresh dimension to his post-retirement endeavours, which include cricket administration, commentary, and reality show hosting.

Notably, a biopic chronicling his life is in development, with National Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao slated to portray him. However, Ganguly confirmed he will not appear on-screen in the film along with some date issues with the actor.

About Sourav Ganguly's Debut Series

The latest instalment in the Khakee franchise, produced by Friday Storytellers and directed by Debatma Mandal and Tushar Kanti Ray, is set in early-2000s West Bengal. The series follows IPS officer Arjun Maitra (Karan Tacker) as he confronts a volatile nexus of gang warfare, political corruption, and systemic decay. 

The trailer, released on March 5, promises gritty action, intricate power struggles, and moral ambiguity, staying true to the franchise’s reputation for hard-hitting narratives. 

Ganguly’s unexpected debut has electrified both cricket and entertainment enthusiasts, with social media abuzz over his on-screen potential. 

While details of his role remain under wraps, the promo’s police theme hints at an authoritative character. As audiences await the series’ release, all eyes will be on how India's cricket legend transitions from the pitch to the screen.
