With the internet becoming more and more accessible, everyone's favourite pastime across the globe has evolved into 'trolling'.  Under the garb of anonymity, a person can easily vent their frustration, anger, or feelings upon any known personality over social media, which does not limit itself to anyone or anything.

Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap known for making ground-breaking movies, has often been the target of such trolls, given his body of work across genres and platforms.

Speaking to Pinkvilla about trolling culture in India, Kashyap explained how people don't even spare Indian cricketers and bring their families into the picture at the drop of a hat.

The famous director gave the example of former India captain Virat Kohli, whose better half, Anushka Sharma, an acclaimed Bollywood star often gets targeted needlessly for the batter's poor outings.

"Cricketers are trashed just as much. If Virat (Kohli) doesn’t hit a century, people are on to him. They will also drag Anushka (Sharma) into it. Whatever is celebrated the most, the same thing is always trashed. Be it cinema, cricket or our politicians, our heroes."

After years of dating in secrecy, 'Virushka' as fans fondly call the couple, married in a private wedding in 2017. The ceremony took place at Borgo Finocchieto in Tuscany, Italy. The decorated couple announced the birth of their firstborn 'Vamika' in 2021.

Both Kohli and Sharma have openly spoken about being targeted by trolls on social media, and have had each other's back.
