It turned out to be one beautiful day for Afghanistan and its fans as the war-torn nation defeated their old rivals Pakistan in a close encounter played in the World Cup 2023 in Chennai on Monday, where the Afghan batters displayed a dominating show with the bat. Especially the opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran snatched the game from Pakistan, smashing 65 and 87, respectively.

Later, the duo of experienced Rahmat Shah and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi finished the job by playing crucial knocks of 77* and 48* as they chased down 283 in 49 overs.

After the game, it is customary for players to exchange handshakes and pleasantries as they often share a smile with each other to display the spirit of cricket. However, Pakistani skipper Babar Azam handed over his bat to Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz for his valiant effort yesterday.

The photo posted by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) was captioned,

"Thank you Babar Azam for your gift! 🤝"

This was the third big upset of the World Cup so far, with Afghans inflicting two of them, the other one against England, whereas the Netherlands did the remaining one against South Africa.

Post this surreal victory, Afghanistan will march on to play against Sri Lanka in Pune on 30th October with the hope of continuing their winning momentum.
