Zimbabwe national cricket team have opted to dedicate the second fixture of the ODI series against India to cancer patients. All spectators are requested to be dressed in orange for the cause.

All the members of the team took time from their practice sessions to visit the Pediatric Ward at Parirenyatwa hospital in Harare on Friday. The duo of skipper Regis Chakabva and Sikandar Raza gifted some goodies to the kids.

Pediatric Oncologist Dr Vongai Dondo expressed her delight with the cricketers showing their care and putting smiles on the faces of the patients.

“We are grateful to the Chevrons [Zimbabwe team] for their kindheartedness and taking time to come and visit our children. Having sports personalities coming in like this shows there are some people who still care and bring hope to children who also dream of getting better and also playing sport like them,” Dondo said.

Regis Chakabva call upon fans to support the initiative

Chakabva called the cricket fans in large numbers to support the team and the initiative on Saturday. He further hoped for a speedy recovery for the kids enduring a life-threatening disease.

“As part of efforts in raising awareness to cancer and supporting kids suffering from this deadly disease, we have brought some goodies to cheer our little fighters up.

"They deserve all the support and cheering they can get and we call upon all our cricket fans to come and support the cause tomorrow in orange and also we dedicating tomorrow’s game to our little heroes. As our hearts and prayers go to them in recovering.
