Anwar ul Haq Kakar, the PCB patron, and Pakistan's acting prime minister, recently announced that Zaka Ashraf is set to continue as a chairperson for the Pakistan Cricket Board till the end of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Previously, his tenure overseeing the board operations was expected to expire on November 5th.

Ashraf has been a controversial figure who has caused a substantial amount of stir with his words and actions. From regarding India as a “Dushman Mulk” (enemy country) to leaking Babar Azam’s private WhatsApp chats on social media, Ashraf has been under the scanner for quite some time now. His controversy stoking moves have not gone unnoticed and the PCB have been fairly dissatisfied with his lackluster contributions to the board.

Under his management, the Men in Green also had to endure some painful defeats which ultimately resulted in the resignation of PCB chief selector Inzamam Ul Haq. Ashraf has faced severe criticism from the management committee, particularly Zulfiqar Malik and Mustafa Ramday, for his inadequate decision-making and failure to take action regarding the organization's board elections. Malik also went on to email Ashraf to express his discontent with how the board was being run during the World Cup.

"At this time, you know there is a tournament going on. We'll look after this tournament what needs doing, what doesn't need doing. At this moment, I don't think we are going to make a big decision. The reason for that is that at times you have to work according to the doctrine of necessity. Once we are past the World Cup, then we'll see."

The board was given two choices to either select a new committee whilst the World Cup was in progress or to prolong the existing tenure of the Zaka Ashraf-led management committee. The latter was chosen in the end. Following their impressive win against New Zealand at Bangalore, the Men In Green keep their World Cup aspirations alive and will head to Eden Gardens on November 11 to take on England in their last league match.
