Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc has backed the youngsters for the three-match ODI series against West Indies despite suffering a defeat in the T20Is.
The left-handed pacer also talked about the senior lads including David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins who opted out of the Caribbean and Bangladesh tours citing bubble fatigue as a reason and said that it’s everyone’s personal decision.
"I've got my own personal views but, at the same time, each of those guys are gonna have different situations, which, I guess, determine their decisions," Starc said.
"Obviously you throw in conversations about different bubbles and quarantine periods and the like. Obviously, that would have come into it with some guys' decisions,” he added.
"Ultimately, we're here with a strong group of Australian guys, some young inexperienced guys with a chance to perform and potentially lock down some World Cup spots,” the left-handed bowler further said.
Starc admitted that the side needs some improvements in the T20 format but would still seek some positive results in the ODIs beginning on July 21. “We're looking to still win series, and we've got some things to improve on from the T20s which we can do in One-Day games,” he said.
The pacer went through a rough patch early in the T20I series against West Indies but managed to make a strong comeback late in the series to put up two crucial performances.
