Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja struck twice in his nine-over spell against the Netherlands to set up a huge 160-run win for his side in their final league fixture of the 2023 World Cup. The all-round legend cleaned up Netherlands well-set opener Max O'Dowd before entrapping seasoned campaigner Roelof van der Merwe during the backend of the Dutch innings to finish with figures of 2-49.

Following his latest performance, Jadeja stretched his World Cup 2023 tally to 16 wickets to be ranked as the eighth-highest wicket-taker of the tournament after the league stage. Notably, the 35-year-old has now claimed a huge bowling record for himself, previously held by legendary Indian cricketers Anil Kumble and Yuvraj Singh.

Ravindra Jadeja achieves this record with NED spell

Ravindra Jadeja, with 16 wickets in the ongoing 2023 cricketing carnival, has now gone past Anil Kumble and Yuvraj Singh for tallying the highest number of wickets for an Indian spinner in a single World Cup edition.

Kumble and Yuvraj held the previous record by claiming 15 wickets each during the 1996 World Cup and 2011 World Cup respectively. Jadeja’s very own World Cup 2023 teammate, Kuldeep Yadav, is catching up on the milestone, considering the left-arm wrist spinner has already bagged 14 wickets in the ongoing edition.

After Ravindra Jadeja eclipsed Anil Kumble and Yuvraj Singh with his wicket-taking spree at the 2023 World Cup, here is a look at the top five Indian spinners who have snared the highest number of wickets in a single World Cup chapter.
