In a recent development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given a green signal to a PSL-style competition for women cricketers from 2023 onwards. Head of women's wing Tania Malik broke the news after receiving approval from the PCB chairman Ramiz Raja.
The league was initially slated to happen this year but lack of a window led to its postponement. Notably, Ramiz Raja had recently hinted at starting women and Under-19 PSL.
In a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium, Malik talked about the possibility of the Pakistan team pulling off a great show in the upcoming ICC Women's ODI World Cup.
"Our team combination is good, and hopefully, the team can progress in the final four," Malik said as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
Further in her address, Malik reflected upon the hardships faced by the women cricketers and praised the Southern Punjab Cricket Association for their work in the progression of women's cricket.
"Since taking office, women's cricket has been facing difficulties. Efforts are being made to take steps for the promotion of women's cricket and women to come forward in every field," she added.
Pakistan have done an outstanding job in the lead up to the mega event, having won both their warmup matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh. The team will now compete against India in their first fixture of the tournament on March 6 2022.
