New Zealand Men's cricket team have announced their full squad for the Twenty20 and One-Day International series against Sri Lanka over the New Year. Notably, uncapped player, Bevon Jacobs has also got his maiden call up and is set to debut in the series.
Interestingly, senior players like Kane Williamson and Devon Conway miss out as they will take part in the SA20 competition. Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, and Matt Henry are back in the squad after missing the recent limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka. For the unversed, the series will be led by the Kiwi's new white-ball skipper Mitchell Santner who took the reins after Kane Williamson.
Jacobs gets maiden T20I call-up for Sri Lanka series
Auckland Aces' star batter Bevon Jacobs recently impressed in a warm-up game against Sri Lanka with a blistering 16-ball 39, and has been rewarded for his strong domestic performances with the call up. However, it is worth mentioning that he will only be considered for the T20 matches and not for the ODI encounters.
Jacobs, who has been a standout performer in the Super Smash, New Zealand's domestic T20 tournament, impressed with a strike rate of 188.73 for Canterbury Kings. His performances have not gone unnoticed, as he was recently acquired by the Mumbai Indians for INR 30 lakh in the IPL mega-auction auction.
Other notable inclusions in the T20I squad are Zak Foulkes, Mitch Hay, and Tim Robinson, all of whom made their international debuts on the recent tour of Sri Lanka. The ODI squad sees the return of key players like Tom Latham, Will O'Rourke, and Will Young, who have been rested for the T20I series.
Latham will resume his role as wicketkeeper-batter, while O'Rourke and Young bring their experience and class to the ODI batting lineup. Meanwhile, Luke Ronchi will take over as head coach for these series, providing Gary Stead with a well-deserved break after an extended period in the role.
