India's Test squad for their upcoming West Indies included some surprises, where players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav were excluded, raising doubts about their future. However, speaking to the Times of India, a BCCI source, confirmed that Yadav has not been dropped but is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, and is recovering from an injury.

Yadav, who last played for India in ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 against Australia, attained match figures of 2 for 131, which was way below his standards is currently getting treated for a hamstring injury.

The unnamed BCCI official also cleared the air about Pujara, that he can still make a return to the national side, along with Yadav.

Here's what BCCI source said

"Umesh is suffering from a hamstring injury and is recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. If Ajinkya Rahane can be made the vice-captain of the Test side after being out for 15 months before the WTC final anyone can make a comeback. The doors aren't closed on any senior player."

"It's just that you need to start transitioning somewhere. The selectors don't want a situation where all the seniors quit the scene in one go and we don't have anyone experienced left in the dressing room."

In 57 Tests for India, Yadav has claimed 170 wickets since 2011 and has been leading the attack alongside Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.

India's tour of the West Indies kicks off with a two-Test series, followed by three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five T20 Internationals (T20Is).
