  • Wi Vs Ban Nicholas Pooran Confident Of Series Victory After A Defeat In The First Odi

WI vs BAN | Nicholas Pooran confident of series victory after a defeat in the first ODI

West Indies lost the first rain-truncated One-Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh by six wickets owing to a batting collapse at Guyana.

However, West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran is hopeful that his side will come out on top in the remaining two ODIs to claim a series win over the visitors.

Speaking ahead of the second ODI, Pooran said that although Bangladesh have got the better of them in the recent past, the second ODI of the series would provide the hosts with an opportunity to level the series.

"We know Bangladesh have had us in the last couple of [ODI] series, but that's OK. I feel like we're still going to win this series. We'll get the opportunity to come (back) again on Wednesday. We just need to continue believing, staying in the fight," Pooran said.

Despite West Indies' humiliating loss, Pooran lauded his players' fielding these days and spoke about how everyone is working hard to get better as a team.

"We definitely have been fielding better as a group -- taking catches, diving around," Pooran said. "It is a really young team, and we're trying to get better as a team and as cricketers," he added.

The dynamic southpaw also expected the management and fans to back the team, helping them evolve into a formidable unit.

"I just hope that we could continue to get the support of the management and the coaching staff, the fans and everyone. Just continue to back us, and I believe we will do brilliant things in the future," the 26-year-old concluded.

After being whitewashed in Tests and T20Is, the Tigers finally managed to win their first game of the tour on Sunday.

Inviting the hosts to bat first on a tricky wicket, Bangladesh dismantled them for just 149 runs and later chased it comfortably.

The second match of the series will take place on Wednesday, July 13, at the Providence Stadium.

To note, West Indies have not managed to beat Bangladesh in an ODI series since 2014 and will look to get rid of this unwanted record in the coming games.
