Virat Kohli, often hailed as one of the most formidable batsmen in the world of cricket, is affectionately known as "King Kohli" by fans and followers alike. This nickname isn't just proof of his exceptional skill set but also of his leadership, consistency, and ability to perform under pressure, making him a cricketing royalty in the truest sense.

What's the story behind Virat Kohli being called "King Kohli"?

Kohli's journey to becoming "King Kohli" is marked by numerous records and milestones. His aggressive batting style and ability to chase down targets with ease have seen him break several records. His dominance in all formats of the game is highlighted by his average of over 50 in T20Is & ODIs and nearly 50 in Tests (49.1)

Beyond the numbers, what truly sets Virat Kohli apart is his leadership. Under his captaincy, the Indian team achieved significant successes, including historic series wins overseas.

His captaincy style, highlighted by his aggressive nature and a never-say-die attitude, instilled a winning mindset in the team.

Kohli's impact goes beyond the cricket field. His fitness regime, dedication to practice, and mental toughness have inspired a generation of cricketers worldwide.

Furthermore, he revolutionized the fitness standards in the country and led by example by becoming one of the fittest cricketers in the world. His passion for the game and off-field persona added to the aura that surrounds him, earning him the nickname "King Kohli."

However, there's a theory regarding the origin of the nickname "King Kohli" that traces back to a personal anecdote shared by an Indian fan now residing in Australia. According to Kunal Gandhi, an IT consultant, the nickname "King Kohli" was first coined by him during India's tour of Australia in 2014.

Gandhi, keen on presenting Kohli with a jersey that carried more than just his name, found inspiration in Kohli's exceptional form at the time.

"During India's tour of Australia in 2014, I wanted to gift him a jersey but did not want to write only his name without an adequate adjective. He was in form then and suddenly the word 'King' came to my mind, and I presented him a jersey with his name 'King Kohli' on it," Gandhi explained.

The gesture was well-received, with Kohli autographing the jersey, and since then, the nickname has gained widespread popularity among fans and the media alike.
