The IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali is all set to host the first match of the blockbuster 3-match ODI series between India and Australia on September 22. The stage is set for a mouthwatering showdown as two sides look to get some much-needed game time heading into the World Cup.

India and Australia share an intense rivalry when it comes to white-ball cricket. The two have been embroiled in some closely-contested ODI series in recent times. The Men in Yellow have triumphed successfully over India in the home ODI series in 2019 and 2023.

Looking back at their previous success, we revisit the fourth ODI match of the Paytm series played back in 2019 which Australia won handsomely riding along the heroics of Ashton Turner.

India were firmly in the driver’s feat after posting a colossal total of 358/9. The belligerent 193-run stand between Rohit and Shikhar helped the Men In Blue set the tone for a gigantic score.

In response, Australia lost Marsh and Finch early in the chase pushing the visitors right on the backfoot. Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb teamed up and stitched up a brilliant 192-run stand to pull Australia out of the crisis.

However, the real punch was delivered by Ashton Turner who smoked the Indian bowlers to all parts. As Maxwell departed early, the onus was solely on his shoulders to take his side over the finishing line. Against a formidable Indian bowling lineup, the tall middle-order batsman notched up an unbeaten 83 off 45 balls which involved 5 fours and 6 sixes. In the end, Australia made a mockery of the required target and comfortably got over the line with 13 balls to spare.

As we head into the upcoming fixture, the Men in Blue are currently high on confidence after their monumental Asia Cup success. Whereas, Australia ended up receiving a terrible trashing at the hands of the Proteas despite being 2-0 in the ODI series early on.
