We’ll try to bring more cricket to Multan: Ramiz Raja

Pakistan's home ODI series against West Indies was shifted from Rawalpindi to Multan amid the political tensions prevailing in Islamabad. Fortunately, people gathered in large numbers in the stands regardless of the scorching heat of Multan, turning the series into a grand success for the Pakistan cricket board (PCB).

In the aftermath of the series, the PCB chairman Ramiz Raja has heaped praises on the Multan crowd for their immense support despite the terrible weather in the city.

"I would like to thank the fans for making their way to the stadium and supporting us despite the hot weather. It means the world to us," Ramiz said.

The crowd's unconditional love for cricket has made the PCB chairman realise that Multan can serve as a very profitable venue for PCB in their upcoming series. Also, looking at the Multan people's dedication to the game, Raja is convinced they deserve to witness much more live action.

Therefore, the former Pakistani opener vowed to arrange a more significant number of matches in Multan and promised the crowd to organise the England home series and some games of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the iconic venue.

"You [Multan crowd] have proven that Multan deserves much more cricket, and we will try our best to force Pakistan-England matches in Multan and shift PSL matches here as well," the ex-Pakistan captain added.

Continuing, Ramiz expressed his gratitude towards Pakistan and West Indies teams for exhibiting sheer competitiveness on the field despite adverse weather conditions.

"I would like to thank the West Indies and Pakistan cricket teams for maintaining great intensity despite the hot weather. They had the guts to gut it out," the 59-year-old concluded.

Famous for Virender Sehwag's blistering triple hundred, Multan hosted an ODI in 2008. The series against West Indies brought smiles to the faces of thousands of local fans.

With the PCB chairman looking determined to host more international matches there, the joy of the Multan cricket fans is only expected to reach new heights in the near future.
