In the heart of Uttar Pradesh, the village of Bhadohi erupted in massive celebrations, a scene more typical of a grand festival than an ordinary Saturday. The cause of this widespread joy was none other than the village's own Yashasvi Jaiswal, who etched his name into cricket history with a spectacular double century against England in the 2nd Test at Visakhapatnam.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's double ton sparked festivities in hometown Bhadohi

The air was filled with the rhythm of dhols, the crackle of firecrackers, and the aroma of traditional sweets, as the locals reveled in the achievements of their hometown hero. At just 22, playing in his 6th Test match, Jaiswal became the third-youngest Indian batter to score a double century in Test cricket, joining the ranks of cricketing legends with his 209-run knock during India's first innings.

His remarkable feat not only showcased his talent but also highlighted his readiness for the challenges of high-profile series. Following an impressive 80-run knock in the first Test, Jaiswal elevated his performance, much to the dismay of the English bowlers, delivering an even more clinical display in Vizag.

The absence of seasoned players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja in the 2nd Test placed immense pressure on the Indian top-order. However, Jaiswal rose to the occasion, contributing over fifty percent of the team's total. While other experienced members of the team struggled to capitalize on their starts, Jaiswal remained solid, participating in eight crucial partnerships that propelled India's score.

The highlight of India’s first innings was undoubtedly Jaiswal's 209, leading India to 396. In response, a Jasprit Burmah six-fer ensured that the visitors were bowled out for 253. However, Jaiswal couldn’t replicate his heroics in the second innings as he was dismissed by James Anderson for 17. Despite a modest score in the second innings, Jaiswal's monumental first-innings total has been instrumental in setting up India's commanding position.
