[WATCH]: Rohit Sharma perishes while playing a pull-shot against Leicestershire Foxes

Rohit Sharma's knack for throwing away his wicket while playing the pull/hook shot continued on Thursday afternoon as he was caught out to seamer Roman Walker during the first day of the warm-up match between Leicestershire Foxes and the tourists.

It all happened on the second delivery of the 16th over of India's innings when Walker dished out a harmless short delivery.

Rohit, a compulsive puller, could not resist the urge and went for it.

But, as it turned out, he could not connect with the ball as he would have liked. Instead, the ball hit the top edge of his bat and ended up safely in the hands of Abidine Sakande at deep square leg.

This is not the first time the Indian opener has perished while playing a hook or pull shot in Test cricket over the last 18 months.

One of the greatest short-ball players of the modern era, Rohit's strength has often led to his downfall in the game's longest format.

He has squandered starts in Australia in the summer of 2020/21, and although he did get runs in England last summer, it is also a reality that he could have scored more with a controlled shot selection.

The opposition has identified this weakness in Sharma's game, and as England did with Mark Wood last year, they have started to exploit it.

Nevertheless, Rohit's dismissal after he had eased his way to a 47-ball 25 came shortly after his partner Shubman Gill's dismissal.

The dismissals triggered a collapse as Walker claimed Hanuma Vihari (3 off 23) and Ravindra Jadeja (13 off 13) shortly after, while Prasidh Krishna knocked over Shreyas Iyer for an 11-ball duck.

Since then, Virat Kohli and KS Bharat have resurrected the innings.

Kohli has looked in decent touch during his unbeaten 60-ball 32 thus far, while Bharat has given him good support.

Kohli smashed Prasidh for a disdainful six over square-leg after the lunch break, but inclement weather has currently halted the proceedings at Leicester.
